Overlooking the Chehalem Valley

We live very close to the urban growth boundary of metro Portland, so we literally drive two miles and find ourselves with breathtaking views of the coutnryside.

The nursery Noah works for has a stunning view out its front door.

My commute was mostly through the Chehalem Valley and countryside. Beautiful sunrises, pastoral hills, and on clear days a glimpse of Mt. Hood on the way home.

We were dismayed at construction on Cooper Mountain overlooking the Chehalem Valley thinking  "another" housing development was going to block the view.

We were wrong!

The local Parks & Rec. department had bought the property to create a nature preserve!

It recently opened to the public so we had to check it out!

It is much deeper than we anticipated and thus more downhill than we prepared for.

The stroller wasn't gravel friendly uphill and our arms weren't prepared to haul 25 lbs. so we took a few short paths and then found a field for Georgia to run and play in while we had a picnic lunch! It was a gorgeous day to see the valley!
